The project ‘ASIAN CAIRNS’ takes aim at recurring mass rural exodus and unrestrained urbanization by proposing sustainable ‘farmscrapers’ that produce more energy than they consume via food production, wind harnessing and solar power. assuming that density is inversely related to energy consumption, the towers in ‘asian cairns’ use biomorphism and bionics to make an architecture that becomes cultivable in the emerging chinese megalopolis of the pearl river delta. Developed under vincent callebaut architectures, the project aims to combine archaeology and sustainable food systems, that grow up around wooden and timber towers in New Delhi, India. ‘Hyperions’ is made of six garden towers, each 36-story high containing residential and office spaces. The name comes from the tallest tree in the world ‘the hyperion’ – a sequoia semperviren found in northern california – whose size can reach 115.55 metres (close to 380 feet). With its 274 identical, ornamental concrete modules typical of the modern period, the façade doesn't reflect the birth name of the building, related to the nearby Jardin Botanique (botanical garden). The proposed concept is to "bloom" the existing building, in the botanical, flowering sense of the word. Planter beds and a web of cables act as substrate, dressing the mineral façade with a vegetal envelope that regroups the entire range of the flora endemic to the Brussels area. PARIS SMART CITY 2050 🌱🌿🍃 Following the Climate Energy Plan of Paris aimed at reducing 75% of the greenhouse gas emissions within 2050, the « 2050 PARIS SMART CITY » project is a research and development work on the integration of high-rise buildings with plus-energy (BEPOS) producing by solidarity all together energy for the surrounding areas. In order to fight against the urban heat-island phenomenon by increasing in the same time the density of the city in the long-term, this study presents 8 prototypes of mixed towers. These towers repatriate the nature in the heart of the city and integrate from their design the rules of bioclimatism and the renewable and recyclable energies in short loop through innovative systems.
