Being a strong woman isn't always easy but it's always rewarding.

Alpine splendor at Milk Lake, in Olympic National Park. Some free climbing up the rightside slopes here brought total round-trip mileage for this day hike yesterday to 17 miles, and elevation gain on ascent to 4,700 feet. Milk Like is reached via a boot trail adjacent to campsite #9 as you wend around the left (east) shores of Upper Lena Lake. If you go hiking with me, don't have evening plans! This was a 21-hour day from start to finish including ferries, driving, playing on God's furniture, and pausing, deeply, to let bears pass by #hiking #hikinglife #pnwonderland #washingtonstate #washingtonexplored #cascadiaexplored #optoutside #outdoors #outdoorphotography #naturephotography #nature #naturegram #landscape #landscape #liveoutdoors #mountainlove #mountains#exploremore #getoutside #illgrammers #earthshotz #photos #upperleftusa #usa #seattle #beautiful_destinations #view #dayhike

Having the ability to spend 2 years forging deep bonds with our babies is a blessing beyond measure for a #militaryfamily. . . 🎧 I chatted with @hurryupandwait_ #podcast about the #greentogold option. Try to look at life with a birds eye view, you’ll be surprised what you see.

This past weekend was the anniversary of 2 of the most significant events of my life: the first time I ever travelled solo and the first time I ever went out hiking. Both events would completely change my life. I had always loved the idea of traveling yet for most of my early 20s I didn't really enjoy my trips. I either had a 'good time' or was just plain annoyed and none of the trips provided me any sort of intrinsic satisfaction. Then, after one particularly disastrous trip (most of which I spent just wanting it to be over), I decided to see what it was like traveling by myself. And that's when I finally fell in love with traveling. I realized there is nothing more empowering, self-discovering and enriching than traveling by yourself. You get to decide the itinerary, where you want to be and how long you want to be but more importantly everything that you feel and everything that you experience is real and completely your own. Since then, I have always looked for solitude, to find moments by myself. I don't always travel alone but I ensure that I have at least a few solo trips planned every year. So it made sense that this weekend I would go hiking by myself. I woke up at 3 am, packed my bags and drove to Mount Rainier to chase a sunrise and hike 20 miles around the Mountain. I saw Rainier basking in the Golden light of the early morning sun in a spectacular sunrise, I sat in an old fire lookout by myself watching a valley of clouds with no one else in sight, I hiked by a glacier and onto an emerald green lake that had no name because it hasn't been identified by the geologists yet. My legs ached but I continued because I wanted to. Because I had nowhere to be, no schedule to stick to, no worrying about what someone else wanted. All I had to do was listen to what I desired and do that. And I did! #mountrainiernationalpark #findyourpark #americasbestidea #americathebeautiful #nationalparklife #nationaparkgeek #nationalparkobsessed #np10k #igfan_outdoors #igfan_hiking #hikingforlife #hikingheartbeat #disconnectedcollective #hikingbangers #pnw #pnwescapes #pnwonderland #pnwhiking #pnwroamers #washingtontrails #washingtondiscovered #washingtonexplored

We set out on our hike and Mt. Rainier was completely hidden from view. We held our hopes high she would make an appearance. Our hike through the meadows full of wildflowers and rock fields with screaming marmots held a heavy dense fog. I love watching the fog stream its way around the mountain. Feeling the moisture and the cool mist sometimes very heavy was exhilarating! Encouraged by other hikers we were told to keep going the mountain is out. Patience and persistence paid off! Slowly, slowly the fog lifted and there she was... I love days when the mountain comes out! 🏔👣 . . . . Back from a very long and sleepless weekend where time was sort of swallowed up and laughing was way too easy (ya delirium lol) but looking back those are always my favorite kinds, the ones where you roll with the punches and make last minute decisions and still have a good time. Loved learning so many great skills at @alderleafwildernesscollege like building a shelter, making a bow drill and a fire with it, learning how to boil water without a jet boil 😆 and about flora/fauna, and how to build and use primitive traps!

Misty morning on Bear Lake

This was such an awesome lake to take photos. Had a blast walking around and snapping shots.

Sometime when traveling you just need to find a local park with trails. This beautiful park in the Olympia/Tumwater area of Washington.

I’m back from spending a week in Olympic National Park. Spent the first night camping at Deer Park then made my way to the coastal beaches and spent my last day at the Hoh Rainforest. This entire trip I thought I was exploring new places but it wasn’t until the last day that I realized I had already been to all of these beaches way long ago 🤦🏻‍♀️. Either way, it was a blast taking my nephew on a summer adventure and teaching him how to build a campfire, put up a tent, and how to cook meals while on the go. Only halfway through the trip he asked, “so when are we going camping again?” 😂 . . . #upperleftusa #wanderwashington #livewashington #thatpnwlife #pnwcollective #cascadiaexplored #northwestisbest #thenwadventure #pnwlife #northwestcreatives #washingtonexplored #rei1440project #explorewashington #bestofnorthwest #choosemountains #pnwdiscovered #pnwisbest #herpnwlife #pnwonderland #greatnorthcollective #optoutside #hikingadventures #stayandwander #theoutbound #letsgosomewhere #aov #adventurethatislife #mytinyatlas #discoverearth #findyourpark

One of those days when summertime doesn't quite look like summertime... ☁️ The old, perfectionist version of myself would have been sad that I hiked all the way up here just to have my beautiful views blocked by fog. But this new, more accepting, more grateful version of me is trying to appreciate that the fog is a beautiful view in itself. What a neat experience it was to walk along a ridge amongst the clouds :)

What an incredible place, Westport! 🐬🐧 Shea shares his captures from a recent pelagic trip! Can you name them all? ⁣ 📷 @shea.g_t

"Hey @erin.burdick, can you take photos of me walking the ridge to the summit?" (After we already took a nice, long break.) As the one taking photos, I don't usually get action shots of me. Lately, I have been asking people to because I was there too. They may be a little staged, but they add to the memories long after they happen. I hold this scramble super close. Sometimes, it's hard to find reliable climbing partners. Ones you can have fun with and go a reasonable pace without feeling like you are always rushing. With so many options to choose from, it's always important to update and revisit who you want to climb with. Thanks Erin for a fun weekend. Can't wait to get out with you more. #liveyouradventure #shejumps #pnwonderland #herpnwlife #sheexplores #getoutside #pnwoutdoorwomen #washingtonexplored #gaiagps #sheadventures

There are many great moments that occur when I go outbound. But when I find myself surrounded by jaw dropping sights, seizing the moment with my camera is a must

Still dreaming of waking up in the Cascades... ✨

Diving into the work week like...Had the most perfect summer day yesterday. Hiked to the most beautiful blue lake I have ever seen and dove right in. Stayed at this spot for a few hours and had the whole lake to ourselves with a few of my favorite people!

Sheriff Butch Pine, known as none other than “The Buffalo.” Born into poverty, Butch would have a massive ‘learning curve’ for moving forward in life. Skinny at birth and bulky into adulthood, he had quite the transformation in both mental and physical appearance. Tragedy would have an unfortunate brush stroke into his life that would forever change his world. By 2004, two years into The Second RootRot Depression, Butch would be the only living member of his family. Perhaps disheartened, Butch would find the motivation to open a charity for those less fortunate in this community wide event. In 2014, after years of public service, he would be voted with the distinction of an honorary sheriff- a job he has continued to joyfully serve to this day

16 miles, 4000ft elevation, and a whole lot of scrambling with my big backpacking bag. We were submersed in clouds and fog the first evening of our trip, but it was windy enough for us to have high hopes for the morning. Sure enough, 530am rolls around and I’m being woken up to witness the sunrise over a cloud inversion behind the ridge. I put on all six layers of jackets (😂) and scrambled my half-awake self up to the top to witness the most incredible sunrise I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing quite like it, and I’m not sure if I’ll find anything that will beat it anytime soon. 💫

One more Washington waterfall: Comet Falls in Mount Rainier National Park. No doubt, you’ll involuntarily throw your arms in the air upon laying eyes on it. Link bio for our guide to Washington’s waterfalls. 📸: @myventurelifestyle #findyourterritory

Happy World Photography Day! Photography has certainly changed my life - by allowing me to meet some amazing people, motivating me to spend time outdoors, and giving me a new appreciation for our incredible natural planet. Royal Basin: Part 1 ... After a night hike in to camp at Royal Lake, we woke up to a beautiful morning and spent most of the day exploring the upper basin. | #mycrookedpath #backpacking #tentlife⛺️

Black Peak Summit, 8,970 ft. This was an incredible backpacking trip! Passed three lovey lakes on the way in. We found the perfect camping spot for the night and then continued our ascent. The scree field was a beast, but the climb up was amazing. We were lucky enough to have great weather all weekend.

Anyone else really REALLY love the Fort?

Found some little guys that were having a crazy hair day. What would you call these alpine fluff-balls?

Those lock-off’s I’ve been practicing during my work shifts at the climbing gym have been paying off 💪🏻 Such a fun day and too many pictures to share from bouldering in Index yesterday! Upon waking, my body is feeling thoroughly wrecked today from all the activity over the weekend and I had a hard time motivating myself to get out of bed to head to the gym for a quick cardio session 😅 Isn’t this what it’s all about though? Share good times with friends, wake up sore on Monday, recover during week and do it all over again next weekend 🙌🏻✨🌲🏔 . . . #adventuremamas #unstoppablewomen #washingtontrails #choosemountainswomen #lifepoints #timetoplay #expandyourplayground #optoutside #upperleftusa #washingtonexplored #pnwoutdoorwomen #sheadventures #mountainmama #forceofnature #springtribe
